Predictable expenses belong in the budget even when they happen only once or twice a year.
Make a twelve-month list
Look back through statements for renewals, school costs, gifts, vehicle registration, and routine maintenance. Add known expenses coming up. Separate these from genuinely unexpected emergencies.

Divide by the time left
If a $600 bill is due in six months with nothing saved, the monthly target is $100. If $240 is already reserved, the remaining $360 requires $60 monthly. Recalculate when the expected charge changes.
Keep the money identifiable
Use a separate account or clear category in your records. Know which dollars are reserved. Check account fees, access rules, and deposit protection before opening anything new.
Adjust priorities
If all targets exceed what you can afford, prioritize required bills and reconsider optional purchases. Contact providers early about payment arrangements. After paying a bill, start preparing for its next cycle.
